We always have them all over the place this time of the year, but this year for some reason there are none.
I found a cocoon of a monarch butterfly and I thought it would be cool to watch it hatch. I got it all on video and it was amazing! Now that it’s hatched, I decided to let it go. Since it was just born, it can’t really walk or anything so it’s just sitting there. […]
I have a butterfly garden that has attracted butterflies every year except this one. The flowers are all in bloom, but the butterflies haven’t come. What happened to them? Where are they? Sandi, send some my way, please!
Yesterday I saw not only a red admiral in our backyard, but a black swallowtail and a HUGE tiger swallowtail, fluttering around our lilac bush. I would love to see more! =) I live in Ohio if that helps with the climate issue. I forgot that certain plants only thrive in certain conditions and shade/sunlight.

The viceroy butterfly disguises itself as a monarch because the viceroy can be eaten by birds and the monarch cannot. If in one meadow there are many viceroys but few monarchs, would the viceroy’s coloring greatly improve its chance of survival?

It’s similar to the orange and black Monarch and Viceroy. I thought that it was a “Spice-Bush-SwallowTail,” but, the picture at Wikipedia depicts a practically all-black butterfly.
