We have been researching Question Mark butterflies. Do they really eat carrion?

A website from Ohio stated that the Question Mark butterfly eats carrion as well as certain plants. I thought they were strictly herbivores. Do they really eat dead animals?

Yes, they do, along with dung and rotting fruit. They don’t take bites of the carrion, as they have probosces like other butterflies. What they do is lap up liquids from the rotting carrion or other food sources.
