Where in Southern California can I find a rare butterfly exhibit?

The specific butterfly I am looking for is the QUEEN ALEXANDRAE BIRDWING found in Papua New Guinea. I just can’t afford to go to Papua New Guinea at the moment. But somebody has to be dispplaying them. and yeah its for a date.

The Los Angeles County Natural History Museum would be a good place to start looking. http://www.nhm.org/

They have a special ‘live’ collection : Pavilion of Wings
Back for its ninth summer, the Pavilion of Wings will open on Sunday, April 15 and run through Labor Day, Monday, September 3, 2007. Special ticketed admission applies. Members receive free admission and the first available tickets.

You might have to speak with a docent or a curator to find the QUEEN ALEXANDRAE BIRDWING that you are looking for but considering the quality of the L.A. Museums collection I expect that they would have one.

Their web site should allow you to ask them questions about their collection from online. http://www.nhm.org/

There seems to be a butterfly smuggler in the area also.

The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History has a live butterfly exhibit going on right now. You can phone them and ask, as they may have a list of the butterflies they have in the exhibit.
